Atomic Data for Astrophysics. II. New Analytic FITS for Photoionization Cross Sections of Atoms and Ions
نویسندگان
چکیده
We present a complete set of analytic fits to the non-relativistic photoionization cross sections for the ground states of atoms and ions of elements from H through Si, and S, Ar, Ca, and Fe. Near the ionization thresholds, the fits are based on the Opacity Project theoretical cross sections interpolated and smoothed over resonances. At higher energies, the fits reproduce calculated Hartree-Dirac-Slater photoionization cross sections. Subject headings: atomic data — atomic processes

Resonance Averaged Photoionization Cross Sections for Astrophysical Models
We present ground state photoionization cross sections of atoms and ions averaged over resonance structures for photoionization modeling of astrophysical sources. The detailed cross sections calculated in the closecoupling approximation using the R-matrix method, with resonances delineated at thousands of energies, are taken from the Opacity Project database TOPbase and the Iron Project, includ...
متن کاملPhotoionization of Hydrogen in Atmospheres of Magnetic Neutron Stars
The strong magnetic fields (B ∼ 10 − 10 G) characteristic of neutron stars make all the properties of an atom strongly dependent on the transverse component K⊥ of its generalized momentum. In particular, the photoionization process is modified substantially: (i) threshold energies are decreased as compared with those for an atom at rest, (ii) cross section values are changed significantly, and ...
متن کاملAtomic Processes in Planetary Nebulae
Abstract. A hot central star illuminating the surrounding ionized H II region usually produces very rich atomic spectra resulting from basic atomic processes: photoionization, electron-ion recombination, boundbound radiative transitions, and collisional excitation of ions. Precise diagnostics of nebular spectra depend on accurate atomic parameters for these processes. Latest developments in the...
متن کاملElectron-ion Recombination Rate Coefficients, Photoionization Cross Sections, and Ionization Fractions for Astrophysically Abundant Elements. Ii. Oxygen Ions
A comprehensive and self-consistent set of new atomic data for photoionization cross sections, and pPI, total uniÐed recombination rate coefficients, of oxygen ions are obtained. The calculations are a R (T ), carried out in the close coupling approximation employing the R-matrix method. The uniÐed treatment of total recombination includes both the radiative and dielectronic processes. The anal...
متن کاملPhotoionization, Recombination, and Radiative Transitions of Atoms and Ions
Physical properties such as temperature, density of stars and their chemical compositions can be obtained from detail analysis of their spectra at various wavelengths. Ultraviolet (UV) wavelengths are particularly important as the chromosphere surrounding a star is rich in UV radiation generated by collisional and radiative atomic processes, such as photoionization, electron-ion recombination a...
